Hmm, I guess I never told you about the racism and own local right-wing rallies whilst we were growing up. Believe DAT500 and me - we're fully aware of the loud and quiet right-wing which have on occassion tried to turn the a not-too-smart and but fortunately apathetic population against the Asians (specifically Leicester and Loughborough). I like to think of political racists like the Mormons - they bother you, they don't go away but at the end of the day they get more abuse than support.

Still life drawing. Do you draw the edges? The light and dark? And that's before you even think about colour! I don't think I'll ever be able to draw "real" things. I'll stick to monsters and dungeons. ;D

Yes, Spanish is fun. German can also teach you a lot about English (well, the bits I know relate the Old English - but I guess you're not interested in that) At least if you learn Spanish, as Tinks says, you can travel to all sorts of places!

technically you can travel to all sorts of places with out learning spanish... Quite right. ;D Being English or American, you won't be expected to know any language other than your own.

I think it's quite rude to not try and learn the language of someone's country when you visit it.

^ I agree. And it's in your own interests too, they try to rip you off if you can't speak a bit of the language, and they treat you much better if you at least try.

I think it's quite rude to not try and learn the language of someone's country when you visit it. I think so to...
I've always wanted to learn a language properly but they only do German, Spanish or French at the colleges near me I think...
I'll probably do German as I found German easier than Spanish when I was studying it and do Spanish later...It is my goal to be able to speak 4 languages by the time i'm 30!

I'd argue that you're probably too close to the problem for a more overall perspective. Extreme parties, traditionally, don't have a progressive increase in popularity, they tend to drift more in the wind - coming in and out of fashion as a protest to the current leadership. It's true that many hard-left Labour supporters have moved over, but I really can't see them, like the BNP, being anything more than a protest vote. Of course, that doesn't mean they won't have representatives but in a more mainstream sense their impact is negated by their very hostility to the political structure they have to restrict themselves within.

Does anyone know what Happy Birthday is in German...
According to my "Easy Learning German Dictionary" it is:
Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Gebürtstag
And according to a crappy translator it is:
Alles Gute zum Geburtstag
