I'm getting the to end of Iain M Banks Matter. He's started killing off characters, even in his sci-fi he seems to like putting in a bit of torture.

GK - it's a Twilight fanfic that for some reason got published.
What's Pathfinder like?

Pathfinder is almost exactly like D&D3.5 ;D with cool art. I've bought it to be sure that when I'm reviewing Pathfinder compatible adventures that I'm not missing anything. PF has become a sort of D&D counter-culture brand when 4th edition D&D came out. I had the beta rules on PDF but the hard back is much nicer to hold.

That 50 Shades of Grey is getting memed and spoofed all over the place, so I decided to look in up, I hate to say it Lollipop, but I think you must be confusing it with something else. ( Amazon) I love massive hardbacked rulebooks - I may have to give in and get the Bestiary as well.

Interesting. Middle class Amazon hid that fact well. The good news is that Wikipedia confirms this strange reality of which you speak.

It reduces the barely-concealed sex references in Twilight to just unpleasant sex, sex, and sex. He's not a vampire who can't kiss her because if he did he'd have to eat her whole, he's just a dirty old man with a "Red Room of Pain".
I wish I did not know this. I have not read it. I would like people to shut up about it.
On the subject of actual, y'know, BOOKS, tho... I downloaded the first half of Josh Sundquist's audiobook for free. Now I have to buy the whole thing, because it is BRILLIANT. The physical item doesn't want to be shipped to the UK, which is a bit sucky because I want to read as well as listen. He so perfectly portrays a nine-year-old boy. I don't feel like I am listening to a memoir, but that I am listening to him as it happens. In his childlike naivety, it swaps in seconds from tragic and horrible to hilarious and touching and sweet. AND YOU CAN LISTEN TO LIKE THE FIRST 12 CHAPTERS FOR FREE! JoshSundquist.com So I see no reason why you wouldn't all give it a listen and see if it grabs you.
I'm loving it.

Details on the upcoming film version of 50 Shades of Grey: it will star Maggie Gyllenhall and James Spader, will be called 'Secretary' and will be made 10 years ago.
I just read The Hunger Games. Must go and read something sensible and high brow now to make up for it.

Eep, Blood of the Zombies is very grown-up horror. It starts with you being repeatedly kicked in the chest in a cell. Lose 3 Stamina points.
I think I need to contact Amnesty International!

Fabled Lands 5 arrived this week. They've changed printers so the paper is a different shade of cream/white to the others in the series, but the covers still pretty much match. bit.ly/fabledlands5

Watched a BBC2 programme last night about JK Rowling and her first foray into adult fiction, "The Casual Vacancy". Wasn't too interested before, but now I'm thinking I might give it a go.

Due to my mentalness affecting my concentration span, I've mainly been just reading glossy magazines lately. But in the past week or so, I have managed to get through Marie Claire, Glamour, and Cosmo. So I am going to start reading one of thhe lovely books I asked for and GK bought me for Xmas - Is It Just Me? by Miranda Hart.

Loved Wintering. Yesterday and today I have been reading Sylvia Plath's Ariel (the restored edition, with an introduction by her daughter, the poet Frieda Hughes, and facsimilies of Plath's original drafts of some of the poems). Soon I shall be moving on to reading The Collected Poems of Sylvia Plath (my battered and abused but much loved old university copy), alongside reading Birthday Letters, by Ted Hughes. I'm a bit obsessed with the whole Plath-Hughes thing.

Summer With Monika arrived. 16 It's got to be done be done right away monika don't argue do as i say
i've put out the milkman and wound up the maid its well after midnight so don't be afraid
yes leave the light on theres so much to see now monika fetch the razorblade and lie next to meAlso I've recently read Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. It was really good; mega well-written. Lots of feelings. I enjoy the 1980s teen fiction (also read The Perks of Being A Wallflower not long ago). And I started To Kill A Mockingbird this morning (or afternoon technically, I sleep a lot).
