Sudoku.
Sudoku is hard.
I'd put it into a haiku, but it's not worthy.

Ha ha thongs. ;D

Dipthongs:
Us and the Dutch use them a lot.
Two vowel sounds next to each other.
pe-ople "pee-a -pul" whe-el "wee-ull
The question is ... how many syllables are there in "people"? It could be 2 of 3, and that screws up the syllables per line count in Haikus - or makes them more interesting depending on your point of view.
(5) Pee-pul are clever (7) I think dipthongs confuse me (5) Pee-op-ull are smart

I don't think people is a very good example - who says it as 3 syllables?? Or do I not socialise with the 'right' kind of people? Nice illustrative haiku there though GK! "Everything" (do you say it "ev'rything"?) is my personal favourite for this grammar point

I guess "wealthy" and "people" are both examples of Anglo-Saxon non-Latin words, which always made me think of them as examples of dipthongs (Anglo-Saxon poetry relies on the dipthongs) - although yes, they are a bit too subtle. But they contain dipthongs precisely because they come from Central-Northern Europe (Dutch area). The manipulation and abbreviation of words like "everything" by Shakespeare is fundamental to appreciating they cheating, matching and breaking up of meter, and that iambic penta-thingymajig. So it's a great poetic example, along with 'till and all sorts other words with compounded suffixes and prefixes ('d) - although I can't remember any off hand. The question is ... was he actually imitating real speech patterns? (This happens a lot in the work his contemporary John Ford - whose scripts are easier to read and listen to with a modern ear - blah blah ... *flashbacks to drama degree...*) I like "free-form" Haikus (those not following strict classical rules) - I'm sure I have read that there are no dipthongs in Japenese and so the syllable count matches the vowels exactly, so it's never an issue for them. Hence my curiosity with ... ooh yes ... cur-i-o-sity - lovely sing-songy word ... now where was I ...? *backs away, bowing to Lollipop's superior English teaching word crunching grammar awareness* Alex, don't worry, you clearly don't want or need to compose Haikus at this time. ;D Perhaps we should run a limericks thread? Interesting ... fear is a dipthong too...

Limericks thread a great idea!
Actually I wish the Chinese kids had asked me complicated grammar questions. They didn't though.
