(double posted in NSHN) Hey dudes I need to pool some resources - I'm searching about for some tech solutions for a new member of the Computer Project which I help out at. Unfortunately is he is inconsiderate enough to be without full vision. ;D He's not entirely blind. He can read some words and high contrast colours on a screen from extremely close up. He's interested in browsing the web and so far I've been doing them searches for him. We've found that the built in functions in Windows Xp (Voice narrator and magnifier) aren't terrible useful because they still rely on a familiarity windows and mouse-use. It'll be nice if we can create a set up where he can browse the web with a minimum input from myself and other volunteers cos we're dead lazy and want him to be empowered or something. Does anyone here use, or know of, any special equipment or software which assists the users who are partially sighted or fully impaired (blind). Specifically with web use in mind. Any comments or suggestions will be received gratefully (and possibly ignored ;D ) Thanks guys. *Tuesday Hugs* Billiam x < Ray Charles ...

Its doesn't work very well on web-pages - well the thing that "narrates" is rather rubbish - it tells about every window ... hmm ... Thanks for suggestion though

The package called Zoom Text 8.0 and it also works well with a braille printer.

could you not bribe a small child with sweets to read everything out on the screen?
or hit them with a stick until they read it, which ever works best

I've found accusing the man of being a fake helped too. Me? Children? Sweets? It's all rumours I tell you! All lies and rumours! __ Haven't looked to deeply into Zoom Text. ... I'm waiting in a chain of money go-aheads and an investigation of what this dude is interested in. Windows based talking systems are a complete bugger.

oh my goodness dk, that does bring back a hell of a lot of long tedious death defying memories indeed. Fair enough GK. Politics is the stuff of nonsense.
