Okay, you're studious bunch. What do you do when your reading a text book, but it just isn’t going in or you can’t concentrate? In my case it’s mainly software self-help books for intermediate dummies (and Dungeons and Dragons Rule books ). I’ve had this since school, it plagued me at college, and I know I’m not the only one. Getting glasses seems to helped a little. ha ha. Blah, feels silly even posting this. Any tips?

err..well..I type EVERYTHING i have up, any notes I take, anything i read from text books, that way, its easy to refer to and by re-typing it, its sticking in my head more because i have to get every word and everything right! I dunno...i just have a lot of free time on my hands!

Yeah, Starlight's right, notes are the best way. The other technique I use is to resist acceptance of the wandering mind: Y'know where an idea in the literature sends you off on a separate journey. You have to have the discipline to keep going back until your brain can immerse itself into the text - of course this doesn't work if you're reading something that's not worth the effort.

Don't do it when you're tired or hungry etc. You have to be in the right mood. Best way to make notes is to write a key sentence from a paragraph.

Tired or hungry? What ? *mind wanders off to fridge and bed ...* Thanks for the tips guys. I will try Red Bull, once I found out what Taurine is and whether or not it's veggie. Yes, the mind and eyes do wander. Perhaps it's too warm in this house and I'm nodding off.

If you read it looking for key bits and then write them bit out... maybe?

Thanks dudes. I do what the cats do - after a while I just sit on the book. Apparrently they absorb knowledge that way.

Take a complete break from it. Then go back to it later, or another time, and see if it goes in any better. In my experience, the more you try to make it go in when you're really not in the mood, the less it wants to go in!

Yes. Sometimes those breaks have stretched into years. ;D Thanks. hee hee. Silly books.
