For my health and social c/w I have to do a health promotion, I'm doing mine on mental health. I'm going to do a presentation on depression. So...what would make you listen and take notice of what was being said? Any ideas on what I should include, and how I should deliver it? Thanks dudes

Dont just talk at people when giving the presentation. Show them...i dont mean dramtically...make them aware...cover all issues of depression and the affects of what depressed people might do, how they might hide away things and just isolate themselves completed....explore into the emotions and feelings of someone who may be depressed...try and explain what may cause the depression, but again dont lecture it...just try andmake people feel what you're saying to them...i dunno

You could start with common misunderstandings, stigmas and stereotypes. Maybe even a clip from a film - the ward in 12 Monkeys (Brad Pitt's "I'm mad" twitching). Try not to get to bogged down in General Anxiety, acute depression - or just general misery, because then everyone will start treating like a counsellor and they'll never leave you alone.
How long is the presentation? How deep do you want to go?
Behavioural and Talking Therapy - psychologists and psychiartrists Chemical Therapy -pills, ADs
Mention World Mental Health Day - celebrated on the 10th of October - mainly an awareness exercise. I think the UN had depression high on it's list of 1st world problems.

How long is the presentation? How deep do you want to go? I have to decide that. Did anyone watch newsround extra today? It was on depression, was pretty good so I might show them that.

Have you seen the advert about depression on tv? The one were the guy is getting an interview for a job and mentions he has depression and the bloke interviewing him turns into a goof. He hides his knife, asks him if being on the 100th floor will be a problem, not that they will give him a seat next to a window ect ect
Is so funny, I know I shouldn't laugh but it's too funny not to ;D

I will be on the look out for that one. I thrive upon bad taste humour at the computer project. Did I mention a heavily medicated client told me to "Keep talking the pills"? ;D (Yes I know I did, but just wanted to say it again. )

The best talks on depression that I've been to have been the ones that made it real. It's one thing explaining why it happens, it's another thing getting people to grasp what it's actually like.
