I am making a calendar for my grandad. I'm writing a little program with animations for each month and it plays them at the right time.
I only have 3 months left to do but I'm bloody sick of it.
Can anyone think of EASY animations I can make for the following months: - January - August - December (I'll also write one for Christmas but that'll probably be the December one with the text changed to "Happy Christmas" instead of "December" (done this for his birthday already).)
To give you an example of easy, the easiest one I've done so far is one of the summer months where there's a sun and it "shines" by alternating rays, i.e. there are only two frames. The fairy & flowers at the top of this board is another example of a two-frame thingy, but I don't want to draw something that complicated.
September was just a load of leaves falling and I may do the same thing with snowflakes for December, but I've run out of ideas for Jan and Aug. Maybe a stick-man in a deckchair for Aug? Not sure what he would do though.
Need to get this finished ASAP so your help is much appreciated.

Sounds cool and sounds like the pixel gif animations I used to try. I'm working on a Calendar of sorts, but it's more about selecting pictures I already have and hoping they vaguely match. For January I'm having a monster hugging a snowman. Is August harvest time? Drunk farmer on a haystack? I'm terrible with months of the year. Have you tried looking up the different months on Wikipedia? December can be a general snow scene or old Father Time? I remember having some clip art years ago for the Art Nouveau Jugend magazine with scenes for every month of the calendar year. There must be some inspiration out there. Sounds really cool. I'm guessing you're doing a separate animation for New Year? January: I keep think of the flower "snow drop" - January is a bugger of a non-event. Totally random obscure January depiction: darkwing.uoregon.edu/~rbear/januarye.html

No, birthday and Christmas are the only special days. If I start putting in all the holidays it'll be way too much extra work! Also Q is writing the install for me as that's way above my level. Even the basic program I'm struggling with a little - command line arguments and whatnot - I'm fairly new to this programming lark (although I've been working on a cute little text-style adventure game). January is a bit crap really, you're right. I guess it'll be something snowy like Dec.... hmm...

Sounds like another one of your awfully tough challenges that you set for yourself. Just give in and stop being so creative. If you're not doing a separate New Year graphic then January can be symbolised with a happy new year fireworks, party, type graphic (or hangover? ).

I did falling snow for Dec and a snowman for January, just August to go now!
It is indeed, the trouble is I start these things thinking "oh, that'll be nice" and underestimate the time it'll take by miles!

August, August. Still warm, too early for blowing leaves. Hazy, bees?

(Bees was a good idea but I'd done a bee in May, don't want them thinking I've got some kind of bee fetish! )

I especially like the bee going "mmm" after landing on a flower. I likes the fireworks as well. (Only trouble I had with it: the Uninstaller short-cut in the Start Menu couldn't find the actual uninstaller program - although I'm really impressed that you have installer and uninstall program!) I like the stick man with watering can - reminds me of the (Pivot?) Stickman animator program. Congratulations, Cool stuff.

I didn't make the install and uninstall. That's way above my level. I wrote the main program (it should run automatically on startup when it's a new month/birthday/Christmas, and run the month when you click on it) and of course made the animations, and my boyfriend helped me with the install programs.
I like the fireworks and the watering can one too. On the copy I made for my grandad he has a firework one for his birthday (as it's in November).
