Van Helsing on Netflix, but I'm beginning to wonder if there are any differences between zombies and vampires in the generic apocalypse tv mini series world any more. Apart from the silly songs at the end, it's awfully serious and a tad gory. Need something silly again. Need more Rick & Morty and the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmitt.

The Interview was pretty giggle-some as well.

Star Trek TOS I was watching it on CBS Action but they stopped showing it around Christmas... now it's on Netflix. I'm enjoying it A LOT.

So I just got to the end of Star Trek: The Animated Series, which stops really abruptly since the second series only has 6 episodes to the first's 16, and was dismayed to find that the old films aren't on netflix. So I ordered the first six films in a box set.
And I found that netflix is doing a reboot, which I may have already known, and the very short teaser trailer that's up doesn't inspire confidence. (It's all oooh look at our effects everything's so sleek and shiny none of this is real but it looks real this was so expensive to do be impressed. And that's fine. As long as they bring the ham as well.)

I've finally finished TNG. I got tired of it. They never did anything with any of the characters. Picard was the only one to have any depth at all and he was still dull. And had no flaws. And should have been gay. I liked Data, a lot. Tasha, Deanna, Geordie and Worf all had potential but it was never realised. I hated Riker with a passion.
I ended up alternating between TNG and TOS to keep interested and then just gave up and watched TOS. I love TOS.
I'm not sure whether to start DS9 or Voyager next. DS9 is more tempting but I remember being very fond of Captain Janeway when my brother watched Voyager back in the day. I don't remember whether I actually liked her or if I just liked that the woman was in charge. That never happened, especially in the shows Jack watched.

The ultimate debate of a thousand forums. I always think that Voyager was pretty refreshing after TNG spent the whole time talking it's way through dilemmas, but boy it dragged a bit in places. DS9 seems to have its moments - I think I drifted off before all the proper shooting happened in the last two series. TOS is great for randomness - and I really wish that most versions I see now are the ones with the new effects (but why?). With regards to Worf's potential, you might enjoy DS9. Coincidentally I downloaded a Star Trek RPG earlier (the tabletop kind ...)

I'm somewhat disappointed that TOS has been remastered. I'd like to watch it as it was originally broadcast - stationary cardboard cutouts and all. It's not like it doesn't look horrendously outdated in the remastered version. And there are those great moments where you go "wait, who's that fighting with the alien now?" and it turns out to be Shatner's stunt double.
I started DS9. I anticipate that it will have more fun issue-of-the-week episodes and character focused bits. I might be wrong. So far I'm enjoying it. I didn't think much of the initial 2-part episode but subsequent episodes have been good.
In other news, I found Stargate SG1 season one in CEX today. It's total trash but it's comforting. The characters live in my head a little now, I've written quite a bit of fanfic (just for practice, for no one else's eyes) so I like to dip into it now and then.

Shatner's stunt double. Different height, hair (sometimes a wig), different physique. DS9 is deceptive. It starts like a sort of Casablanca Babylon 5 soap opera but then moved up a gear, I think. I'm not sure how many I've seen and from which series, but I used to dismiss it and then enjoyed every other episode. STARGATE ! Love Stargate. Naturally every third episode is terrible, but its like a drunk friend who has problems -you're still pleased to see them. One day I will secretly buy them all.

^I'm on the last disc of season 1 So I've ordered season 2! Unfortunately season 3 is disproportionately expensive. I've been watching DS9. I was getting a bit tired of the issue of the week episodes. Then there were like 5 interlinked episodes which I just didn't care about. Then they stopped abruptly. The subsequent issue of the week episodes have been better? But then. BUT THEN. They introduced a disabled character. Then Dr. Bashir fell in love with her and devised a cure. Laptop out of the window time. But! She turned down the cure! And then she vanished to never ever be seen again. I looked it up to see if she did ever reappear and nope. She's gone. Because disabled people are just passing narrative devices to teach lessons to the able bodies. To be fair to him, the writer responsible for her is a wheelchair user and decided that she should turn down a cure to be true to herself but... but she was supposed to be the chief science offer to DS9 in the first place. But it was too "impractical". I didn't expect anything else but it's still extremely disappointing. And makes me want to hold people down and scream until their ears bleed. Like a banshee.

Interesting point about the disability. I never think of DS9 as being that old, but they'd probably handle it slightly different now, maybe. but ug. Ironically, morality is always the weakest point in all Star Trek, maybe because they flaunt it so. Star Trek related. Actor who plays Harry Kim has been running random twitch streams - it was so out of the blue, that there was only 20 of us in chat the other night. I think he might be breaking some rules because he was filming from his phone at a convention whilst on stage with "the male panel", which was him, the doctor, Chakotay and Neelix Q and As with fans Follow GarrattWang on Twitch. I can't find him on twitter or anywhere else. DS9 is so strange. My best experiences are catching later episodes at random and trying to work out what the hell is going on. I bought a few Stargate Episodes on iTunes - mainly the last series, because of the strangeness of seeing the actors from Farscape as main characters, and a couple of the films plus the re-editted pilot, with unnessary boobage and horror during a possession scene or something, bizarre. There must be cheaper ways of buying the early series, there's loads of those magazine DVDs kicking around in charity shops - but the pickings are random I guess (I have a handful, but hardly a consistent collection). I just find that every once in a while a channel like PickTV (no, wait, Sky3?) used to run them in loop, that's why I think I know my way around StarGate. Damn, what happenned to my mid-morning TV treats? Must fix the reception on the main TV. Star Wars spin offs aside (clone wars, rebels) the last sci-fi series I bought sets for was BSG - but I think I copied season 3 from a loaned set. It's more about closure than quality. And boy does BSG deny closure. Thanks C, I'm really getting me geek on here

Ooh, that sounds great. I haven't watched any Voyager yet so it doesn't mean a lot to me but it will!
I've been enjoying DS9 now. I've been choosing to watch DS9 over SG1. The characters are better realised in this. Commander Sisko is dull as f?ck but the rest are at least okay. I like the non-human/Terran characters best. And I actually like Dr Bashir even though I should hate him...
But they'll always find a way to disappoint me. I like Kira a lot. She's not had many love interests (which is good, we don't need constant love interests) but then who should pop up and charm the pants off her? WILLIAM T. RIKER. (Okay not actually William T. Riker but William T. Riker's double that was created in a transporter accident.) I hate Riker. I hate Riker. I hate Riker. And Kira would NEVER be taken in by Riker. Either of them. If you were going to have anyone's evil double from TNG pop up Lore would have been much better. Because DATA.
I attempted BSG once. I got half way through the first episode. I felt like... I felt like I was missing something. But it wasn't like "I'm missing something... lets watch to find out!" tantalising it was more like "I wasn't invited to this party and everyone's deliberately making oblique references until I give up and leave". Alex tells me I should give it another shot.

Even Angry Riker doesn't get the girl (no wait, he does, oh it's complicated). Cisko gets a bit cooler - or maybe he just grows a beard. Odo can be fun. I must have watched so many of them in a such a random order though. I spend the whole time going "who are they?", "oh, now I remember". Ah, and Dax ... That feeling of missing somethingwith BSG never goes away. In fact the writers sew too many seeds and resolve stuff in a clumsy ways. I think I was hooked because I kept feeling I needed closure. By the end of each series I needed therapy. In many ways it's too American. I do get it, but it took me a while to cope with the aesthetic being metaphorical, short wave radios, bureaucrats in neck ties, but anti-terrorist swat teams, it's like a political morality tale, set yesterday in De Ja Vu outer-space shaky-cam land ... I mean, I watch this stuff for the robots and spaceships. DS9: Dr Bashir is just lovely, he gets sillier and more vulnerable. The actor who plays him makes BSG enjoyable, in my humble opinion - the guilt, the turmoil! But probably not worth sitting through every episode and the spin-off movies, and Caprica, and ... SG Universe is on Pick as I type. Man, that series takes itself too seriously.

DAX. I love Dax. Very much.
Is Bashir in BSG? (Not Bashir, obviously, Sid) I could watch for some Sid. I shouldn't like him so much, with his arrogance and charm and all that received pronunciation. But I do.
The more I know Sisko the more dull I find him. They push his New Orleans Creole heritage so hard and somehow fail. It adds nothing to him. He reminds me of Riker. And Picard too. We know a decent amount about their backstories but they're still so dull. We don't know them. Actually I think Sisko is kind of like Riker's character but rebooted to be better. In conclusion, Sisko's fine.
I haven't watched SG Atlantis or Universe. I've seen the odd part of an episode of Universe and.... eh.
In related genre news: I've caught up on Steven Universe. Favourite thing ever.
