Just started Terry Pratchett's new book Making Money. Dare I say it? It's a bit dull...I think he may have run out of ideas. Criticising him feels like sacrilege!

You obviously didn't read Night Watch! But yeah, the last few have been fairly crappy.

He has a big bushy beard!
I've never really got into Pratchett myself - I think this is mostly to do with knowing some really annoying people who worshipped at his big bushy beard. I'm not very good like that.

My favourite science teacher (who has never taught me science, and also only spoken to me once, but he's our friend...) has a Terry Pratchett scarf!
(I've only read one Pratchett. It was good. but I forget what it was.)

Read more of them Sega! They're very good. Well, the first half of the series at least.
He does indeed have a big bushy beard DAT. I'd say don't let them put you off, but I totally understand (it's the main reason I've never put that much effort into reading LOTR, that and the fact that The Hobbit really did put me to sleep)

Had a poetry night - reading things I remember liking in the past. Eliot's "Prufrock" and "Preludes", Tennyson's "Lady of Shallott" and "Mariana", etc.

( ^^ Incident - dog etc.) Someone at the project was looking that up the other day. Normally I like to discourage all references to dead media. Any thoughts upon how Magic Compass / Amber glass thingy has translated to the big screen?

^^"Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" - I have a proof copy of that, I really liked it when I read it. I did also have a signed first edition but stupidly gave it away... (damn me and my pathetic need to be liked, lol).
I REALLY REALLY want to see The Golden Compass film. Loved the books. To be honest, the pictures I've seen of the girl playing Lyra don't inspire me much - she might turn out to be really good in the part, but she just doesn't look like the Lyra in my head. Nicole Kidman looks just like I imagined Mrs Coulter though. Not sure about Daniel Craig - think he's playing Asriel? Hhmm. We'll see...

Ah, the armoured bear - Lyra's faithful companion and protector. I don't think I've seen a picture of the film version yet. Is it CGI-d up?

I'm not sure I remember the books very well any more! May have to reread them before I go see the film.
Just finished "The Book of Lost Things". It's brilliant! I loved it!

Today I bought five books. I never buy books. I got a crime novel by Harlan Coben for my brother for Christmas. And another crime novel by someone else for my dad for Christmas. A little old book of Shakespeare's sonnets (all red and gold) for my Grandmother for Christmas. An Oscar Wilde collection (all black and gold) for myself. And a Jeeves and Wooster collection for myself. Yay for the Age Concern bookshop... ;D
