Okay maybe I'm being dense tonight.
How do most of you guys turn CD tracks into MP3s?
I have some CDs and I'd like to put the tracks on the computer (it isn't as easy as I remember it)
Windows Media Player offers to "Rip to CD" but how do I put the tracks on the hard drive? Manually copying tracks seems to create shortcuts to the original CD.
I'm trying to "import" the CD into I-tunes - is this correct? - will the tracks be on my computer after I eject the disk? (well I guess I'll find that out)
I may have some sort of Roxio software.

Okay - they seem to be in i-tunes now ... I guess that's a start.

I use Acoustica for ripping most of my cd's, but you can use media player.
If you go into tools and options then hit the rip button, you can setup where it stores the files to, if you want to rip as mp3 or any other file type and the quality.
Then go to the rip part of media player and rip the cd.

Brilliant! I knew that there should be more options - I hate being dragged through Windows Wizards. Thanks DK.

I can give you a copy of Wavelab when I return. You can rip away, convert to mp3, ogg, etc and burn to CD all in one app.

Ooh, cool, thankies. I'm experimenting with the different formats but have discovered that ill-tuned ear finds medium to low quality MP3s quite acceptable (over sound of the heat-sync) - fast to copy - low on disc space ... and oh god they're selling MP3 players for £30 ... No, don't need another lovely chrome gadget, this is about home entertainment.
