Tabletop RPGs

I dont play much at all at the moment but over the years I've collected many RPGs (list available on request ) and am currently trying to get my head around Dungeons Dragons 3.5 edition (well just 3rd full stop) in the hope of completing some solo adventure texts either for Dungeon magazine or publication under the d20 Open Gaming License.
I've mentioned it in the Library of Scrolls (Shattered Ziggaret) Also the editors have suggested that I write it for ALL the character classes - which will be a joke, but I wont go into that now ...

Most recently I've played Warhammer Quest (which is no longer availible) - I like to think of it as D&D Lite. I dont like to mention it because it gets confusing becasue I'm not a wargamer - I cant afford the armies and I prefer character/ narrative based plots (although I bought loads of stuff claiming it was "reseacrh" for a story I was trying to write for Inferno! Magazine ;D). The Warhammer Fantasy Role-Playing game is being re-released but it doesn't look like Games Workshop will stock it in its shops which makes me believe that there is an ongoing conspiracy.

I collect the old Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks - I really enjoy dipping into them (especially since you dont need the right operating system or batteries ... )

The Card games are an utter mystery to me. And I dont really have much to do with live-role-playing (rubber swords etc. hee hee). I love the whole - in-the-head immersive imagination experience.

Computer RPGs

My computer is exactly up to date so I'm still enjoying the early stages of Baldur's Gate (plus Tales of Sword Coast). I'm always fascinated how much fun "shopping" is in these games.

Console: Gameboy and N64 (and SNES) Zelda titles.
Kept borrowing playstations to play FFVII on.

Feel free to add anything to this thread that is even remotely RPG related. Be as cheesy as you like as well.

you tried the fallout series for the pc??

they are kinda old now and if you look around you can get fallout, fallout 2 and fallout tactics in a boxset for like 20 quid or so

not played tactics that much, but for awhile i lived in fallout and fallout 2, i would stick music on in the background and just play and play and play

ive completed them many many times but i still return to them from time to time and they never cease to make me happy

best thing is you dont need a fancy pc to play em ;D

Warhammer Quest is great!!!
I kinda liked BloodBowl and Necromunda but it is years since I have played anything like any of this.

used to go round a mtes house and play stuff like that every weekend

i still remember just before a bloodbowl match having the other guy tell me exactly what each of his players was good at and which ones to avoid if poss, not quite sure why he told me this but he beat me anyway hehehe

I've just downloaded a pdf file which is an excerpt from the new War Hammer Fantasy Role-Playing Game

There's a wonderful disclaimer entitled: "AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT REALITY"

The last paragraph reads as follows:

On a final note, it must be pointed out that WFRP deals with mature
themes and concepts. Daemons, insanity, death, corruption and
despair are all integral parts of the Warhammer World. Inside every
cloud, there’s a tarnished lining. Just because WFRP deals with these
things, it doesn’t mean every game session needs to be a harrowing
experience. WFRP is a game. It’s meant to be enjoyable. Similarly, all

Do you mean tabletop D&D? (Not D&D online?) I'll be really honest with you, the depth of the rules still scares and frustrates me, but if the just basics are followed then it can be ace. It's been a while since I've been able to find anyone who'll stay in the same room long enough with me to play D&D.

Tabletop; I didn't know it existed online. I think you just need to find out someone who can understand the ins and outs and get them to be DM, and then the rest of you don't need to worry *too* much about it.

Maybe I would have a look at it online. I don't think I'd be able to find people to play it with IRL.

D&D for me is often more about the plots, strange locations and characters and "role-play" than just the combat. What's interesting is that when the miniature figures start being used the emphasis is often on the combat - and suddenly it all seems a lot more "nerdy" and exact.

Nope I've had to file bits down, glue him together, then I'll have to under coat him and then paint him bright pink! ;D

What kind of figure did you paint?

A wardancer thingy. I think it was some sort of Elf. I think it was something like it was supposed to be a Woodland Elf for the game, but we didn't have any so used a different elf (Night Elf???) This was with Raggy's friends. It didn't look too good because all the surfaces were really smooth so you couldn't get any shading/textures on it. (Well, I was still really excited about it but the boys were less impressed. )

All elves are really difficult to paint - they demand accuracy, detail and fancy nonsense - and usually they are spindly. That's why I buy some of the big grunting models.

I'm rubbish and highlights and shading, had some fun with some leathery wings on a model recently though.

I was well obsessive about mine. He was the only painted one out of the whole team I was playing with. My pride and joy.... XD

The boys weren't very impressed though They kept saying it looked flat
