I'm currently listening to ... Damien Rice "O" (its all simple vocals, acoustic guitar and unrequited love ... stuff that gets through those long nights ... )

Just got the new albums by Doves and New Order. Frankly, I just don't get Doves- I'm probably the only person who preferred them when they were Sub Sub. To finish off a Manchester themed morning I'm going to steal a car.

Have New Order actually written a new song since 1983?
Haven't bought anything new for a while. Currently listening to Shadow Huntaz 'Corrupt Data' Instrumentals - their proper album's full of bad rapping, but the music is lovely. I've also borrowed Dalek's noisey hip-hop opus, 'Absence'.

There's a group called "Daleks"? I never got over the fact that somebody named themselves wookie or something. Currently listening to wake-up juice tunes - the aggressive tracks towards the end of Muse album Absolution (a gift sent to educate me in the ways of modern pop;) )

I dunno I reckon Freddie and Mr Manson would have fun comparing wardrobes (costumes which chafe etc.) ;D Nah. Brian's a total amateur compared to Freddie. The launch party for A Day At The Races featured leather clad dwarfs with trays covered in coke strapped to their heads. I still don't know why that images amuses me.

Have New Order actually written a new song since 1983? Harsh but (reasonably) fair. They've been phoning it in since 1987 by my calculation.

(which come to think of it could be a fascist name also ...) - or am I thinking of Duran Duran ... Whatever, its all to frightening to contemplate.

Whatever, its all to frightening to contemplate. No idea where the Human League name came from (Situationists? They're usually to blame for something), but Duran Duran is the name of a character in Barbarella. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

I know where the name Duran Duran comes from -you Doofus!! The evil genius with the evil torture love machine, and the something-ray. I've even got the 1967 Comic Strip (English translation from the French). (oops descending into Comic Store character from Simpsons. Worst. Post. Ever. ;D) Zero-G stripping - been watching then Jem video recently (naughty girl, thank you TMF channel ... Today I'll be mostly listenning to a compilation thrust upon me by DAT500: Waits, Walker, Gira & Cave "Love Letters From the Abyss" Disc 1 & 2 - trying to go cold turkey on Damien Rice.

I'm currently listening to ... Damien Rice "O" (its all simple vocals, acoustic guitar and unrequited love ... stuff that gets through those long nights ... ) I heard some of his stuff for the first time a couple of nights ago- some light night live thing on channel 4. He's a little, er, bland, wouldn't you say? Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of singer songwriters (Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen, Neil Diamond), but the current crop are so, I don't know, DULL! I saw Katie Melua with Mrs Juno a while back, and the sheer mind numbing tedium made me want to punch a nun. The last string botherer that brought to such a peak of teeth spitting rage was David Sodding Gray (to give him his full name). At first he was mildly irritating, then I noticed that 'wobbly neck' thing he did ALL THE DAMN TIME. The red mist descended and Wolverhampton Civic Centre was no more. On the plus side, I got an Inner City Renewal Award for that one. On the subject of classic singer/songwriters, the word on the street 1 is that Rick Rubin is going to be working with Neil Diamond. It was Rick Rubin who produced Johnny Cash's later works, which are utterly essential. 1Obviously, by 'the street', I mean the sad little messageboards that me and my ilk spend our lives sniffing around

6 Oasis albums on shuffle Need to know every word before I see them in the summer! ;D I'm still really confused by this - that you're so excited about Oasis - I must have totally overdosed on Oasis in 1991 - I've got a couple of albums and never listen to them now. I mean I think I really loved them then and all that sillyness with Blur. Maybe I'm a bit jealous - like I should have gone to see them at the time. Maybe their going to last and last ... We'll be all watching them in 2040 or something (like Status Quo ... )

Amazing album Hoggle - I dont own any Bowie, maybe I should. I totally hear you Barny J - Got a few of the artists you mentioned. I could go off on a blah about acoustic guitar / ballady type songs. (confession - I used to be really into Billy Joel - but I seem to be somewhere else now) In reading all this I've also realised I've seen a few small gigs - lots of local bands but I dont think I've ever been to a festival (I was probably in the middle of one at college and I wouldn't have known it) - I still cant work it out. But there was a phase when it seemed to be all about the drugs or something, never fancied "pilling" it in a field, and I'm not a great camper ... I'm such a prude. (Wants to quote a certain Pulp song ...)

You have to go to a festive GK! It's like the bestie thing ever ;D MY 3rd one this year! That practically makes you a Crusty / smelly Hippy Veteran doesn't it? Or is that just Glastonbury? The mud, the mud!!!! I'd spend the whole time going ... "Who are they?" ... "Oh ... and they're popular are they?" - it'd worse than going with a grandad ... (You kids and your Ee-Pods, your baggy trousers and your Empty3's ... ;D)
